Late-breaking is the act of breaking news after regular programming on a television show or radio broadcast. This is a common tactic used by the 24-hour news networks to report time-critical events that are likely to impact the public, such as terrorist attacks or natural disasters. When a story breaks late, the news network typically interrupts its normal programming with special tickers and/or lower thirds that emphasize the importance of the event.
The purpose of the Late-Breaking Work (LBW) submission is to provide a forum for new and important results from high impact clinical research that was not ready by the MSMilan2023 General Abstract submission deadline earlier this year. LBW presentations will be featured during the Spotlight on Late Breaking Clinical Research sessions, which are reserved for major randomized trials and registries that have been completed recently or have the potential to significantly influence clinical practice in the near future.
Authors of LBW submissions are required to be available for presentation at the conference. LBW presentations will be either paper poster or virtual. LBW submissions are semi-archival and may be reused for other CHI events.
LBW submissions should be novel and must include innovative research ideas, preliminary results, or early-stage findings. LBW should be scientific and align with one of the SfN Themes A-J. The LBW submission must contain original and unpublished data that is not already publicly available on a national meeting website or in a peer-reviewed venue at the time of submission. Research that has been previously presented at a meeting, or published online or in any other non-peer reviewed, PubMed indexed venue is not eligible for the LBW format.
