The term “late-breaking” has been used since the early days of television news to describe a story that is so significant that programming must be interrupted. It’s the sort of breaking news that has the potential to change the course of a country or even the world.
The late-breaking abstract program recognizes novel and critically important research developments that occur in the lead-up to International Congress 2025. Late-breaking abstracts report results that were not available at the time of the regular abstract submission deadline and must contain information that has not previously been presented.
Top-scoring late-breaking scientific abstracts will have the opportunity to be selected for a ten-minute platform presentation during one of three Scientific Late-Breaking Oral Abstract Sessions. The selection process strictly adheres to a set of rigorous criteria and is not intended to favor investigators who inadvertently missed the regular abstract submission deadline.
Research outlined in the late-breaking abstract should be able to provide significant new insights into disease mechanisms or clinical outcomes, advance current knowledge or practice and/or stimulate discussion and debate. The late-breaking abstract program does not accept case reports, qualitative surveys, reviews of existing treatments, rating scale validation, small confirmatory studies or research proposals.
Presenters of late-breaking abstracts must be registered for the corresponding SfN event by Tuesday, June 17, in order to present at the meeting. Additionally, presenters of accepted late-breaking abstracts must complete financial disclosure and abide by the Code of Conduct.
